    The University of Iloilo started as the Iloilo City Colleges (ICC). It was established in June 1947 by the Hon. Fernando H. Lopez, then mayor of Iloilo City, who was imbued with the spirit of unselfish service to the youth.
    In this great task of organizing a college, he was inspired by his wife Doña Mariquit and his brother Don Eugenio.

Go Negosyo, University of Iloilo Host Iloilo NEGOSEM for Students

The Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship – Go Negosyo and the University of Iloilo successfully hosted the Negosyo Seminar para sa mga Estudyante ng Iloilo last September 27 at SM City Iloilo Cinema 6.
Despite the bad weather that hit the country brought by tropical storm Pedring, the Go Negosyo team, based in Mandaluyong, literally braved the storm and trooped to Region 6, to roll out a well-attended negosyo seminar.

Cinema 6 was filled to the rafters with 1,186 high school and college students from various schools such as Colegio de San Jose, Iloilo Doctor’s College, John B. Lacson Maritime University, Western Institute of Technology, University of the Philippine Visayas, Central Philippine University, Ramon Avanena National High School, Sun Yat Sen High School, Fort San Pedro National High School, Mandurriao National High School and the host school, University of Iloilo – PHINMA.
The program featured successful entrepreneurs and Go Negosyo angelpreneurs who all shared their experiences and stories as negosyante. It was officially opened by the welcome remarks given by the President of the University of Iloilo – PHINMA, Dr. Chito Salazar, who was the brainchild of this empowerment event. He believed that organizing events such this could help empower Ilonggos to take on the path of entrepreneurship to eventually help the local and the national economy. His short message was followed by the official launch of an Ilonggo-wide student organization called Iloilo Young Entrepreneurs Society (iYES), which is aimed at taking the entrepreneurship education advocacy in the entire province to the next level.

The next part of the program was Go Negosyo’s Executive Director, Mr. Ramon Lopez’s discussion on the general Philippine entrepreneurship landscape, basic entrepreneurship framework and Go Negosyo as a non-governmental organization and social enterprise.
This was followed by the Tagumpay Forum which highlighted the success stories of two entrepreneurs: Jay Aldeguer of Islands Group of Companies and Ivan Man Dy of Old Manila Walks.
Meanwhile, two lectures dedicated to covering the basic Go Negosyo Negosyo Seminar module immediately followed suit. Prof. Henry Tenedero, Vice-President of Philippine Marketing Association, and a leading advocate of multiple intelligences in the country, discussed secrets on how to develop entrepreneurial mindset and how to spot business opportunities while Prof. Reuel Virtucio, Executive Director of Punla sa Tao Foundation, shared his expertise on product development and marketing.

University of Iloilo opens Hotel

THE UNIVERSITY of Iloilo – Phinma will be operating a University Hotel run by the Hotel Tourism Management Department (HTMD) composed of different courses like BSHRM and BSTM.
According to Ms. Janneth Darroca, program head, this university hotel serves as training center for students. The hotel’s hot and cold kitchen will also serve as venue for their laboratory subjects.
This university hotel is open to the public, especially for special occasions. It has six rooms for guests: suite, deluxe, deluxe single, cabin type, and team type.
The hotel will be fully operational this coming July.
University of Iloilo-Phinma is located at Rizal St., Iloilo City.

University of Iloilo welcomes new president

THE University of the Iloilo (UI) will install Doctor Chito B. Salazar on January 15 as its new university president in a fitting ceremony to be held at the St. Anne Parish in Molo, Iloilo City.
Salazar is the first president of the university under Phinma Inc., being the new owner of the university. He is the business unit head of the Phinma Education Network and senior vice president of Phinma.
Salazar currently holds the position as school president of three other tertiary schools owned by Phinma. He is president of the Araullo University (AU) in Cabanatuan City, Cagayan de Oro College (COC) in Cagayan de Oro City, and the University of Pangasinan (Upang) in Dagupan City.
A young but foremost educator, he is also president of the Philippine Business for Education (PBED) with the sole purpose of nurturing a consensus and sustained advocacy in education reform.
He has held various academic positions including an associate professorship at the Asian Institute of Management, as executive director of the Washington Sycip Policy Forum, and Consultant with the Institute of Environmental Studies in the Netherlands and the United Nations.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Engineering from the Ateneo de Manila University, a Masters degree in International Political Economy and Development from Fordham University and a doctorate in philosophy in International Relations majoring in International Development Management from the School of International Service, The American University in Washington, D.C.
With Salazar at the helm of the University of Iloilo, he is expected to bring in more reforms that will push UI into the orbit of academic excellence in Iloilo City.
The late Philippine Vice President Fernando Lopez founded the University of Iloilo. In April 2008, the University of Iloilo joined the Phinma Education Network by marking a milestone in the school's history. . Sunstar.com
